O termo “música popular brasileira” passou a ser usado usando mais precisãeste a partir dos anos 1960, quando artistas como Elis Regina, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso e Chico Buarque começaram a fundir este legado da bossa nova usando novas influências culturais e políticas.
